Michelle Harrison: A Life Devoted to Education
Michelle Harrison, a beloved former teacher at Trinity Catholic School, embodies the spirit of the school's mission. From her own time as a student at Blessed Sacrament School (1965-72) to her 33-year career as a dedicated educator, Michelle's life has been intertwined with Trinity.
As a student, Michelle remembers fondly the unique atmosphere of Blessed Sacrament, with Principal Sr. Mary Ellen's meticulous report card distributions and the awe-inspiring presence of the many religious sisters. The tug-of-war competitions, folk music at Mass, and the "mystery" of the nuns all contributed to a memorable childhood. Key influences included teachers like Sr. Clare Eugene, Sr. Catherine, Mrs. Dunn, Rosemary MacInerne, and Fran Hudson, whose dedication and inspiration deeply impacted her own teaching philosophy.
Michelle's return to Trinity in 1981 wasn't by chance; it was, as she describes it, "by God's design." After substituting, she was hired by Sr. Margaritte and found her calling in the classroom. From teaching 4th grade to her long tenure in middle school, Michelle collaborated with exceptional colleagues like Jan Jarrett, Sandy Morton, Bonnie Davis, Ann Kennedy, Cheri Haggerty, Illa Gray, Peggy Duram, and Pam Hoy.
Beyond the classroom, Michelle left an indelible mark on Trinity. As Student Council sponsor, she guided students in fundraising efforts, culminating in the purchase of the school's first marquee. The Relay for Life "Rock-a-Thon" and the memorable library move, where students formed a human chain to transport books, remain cherished memories.
Michelle also enjoyed mentoring Brain Bowl teams alongside current Trinity teacher Josh Whittaker and directing the impactful 8th-grade Passion Play on Holy Thursday.
Reflecting on her career, Michelle emphasizes the strong foundation Trinity provides for students to excel academically and spiritually. "The success of the students I taught," she says, "is a direct result of the challenging curriculum and the opportunity to live out their faith within a supportive community."
Michelle Harrison's dedication to Trinity Catholic School serves as an inspiration to all. Her legacy of faith, service, and academic excellence will continue to enrich the lives of future generations of Knights.
