International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program

  • IB Trinity Catholic School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program Candidate School and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.*

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) prepares sixth through eighth grade students for advanced achievement with higher level thinking, communications, collaborative skills, self management, and reflection. ALL Trinity Middle School students participate in our IB Program.

IB MYP enrollment is shown to increase college-readiness by 39%

  • The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is highly regarded by colleges and universities around the globe and is perceived as the gold standard among admissions officials. Marilyn McGrath Lewis, Director of Admissions at Harvard University, says she is always pleased to see the IB credentials on transcripts.

The IB developed from discoveries at the Oxford Department of Education in the 1960’s, and the desire of diplomats to give their children the best possible education. The IB is a phenomenal structure for rigorous academics, and also aims at fostering well-rounded students. The IB approach will maximize opportunities for students to grow as unique individuals, based on their own skills and abilities.

The interdisciplinary nature of IB encourages students to make deeper connections between school and the complex world around them.

The IB’s commitment to developing the whole person aligns with Trinity’s mission of teaching the Faith. By connecting what the students are learning to how they can apply it, IB will further enrich the values already well-established at the school such as service, virtue, and leadership. Trinity nurtures these values, among others, through community involvement, weekly mass, and mentorships programs. Trinity Catholic School’s Pastor, Fr. Pete Zalewski, as well as Christian schools and Catholic dioceses throughout the country, have assessed the IB’s impact on the identity of the school and has determined it will positively impact the Catholic culture on campus.

Becoming an IB World School is a two year process. Administration and faculty are working with an IB consultant during this time to incorporate the IB program into the Middle School’s culture and curriculum. During our second year, IB staff will visit Trinity Catholic School to verify that their educational principles and required standards and practices are in place. Once Trinity has gained full accreditation, there is a continuous process with the IB to maintain MYP status.
